An audio recording attributed to Osama bin Laden called on Europeans to abandon Afghanistan and accused NATO troops of killing women and children there.
The message surfaced on Al Jazeera television three days after al Qaeda’s TV production unit promised fresh communication from the world’s most-wanted terrorist leader.
It’s the first message purported to be from bin Laden since the Arabic-language TV network aired an audiotape last month.

A shopkeeper told police he overheard an American student and her Italian boyfriend, both suspects in the murder of a British student in Italy, planning a “wild sex” romp the day after police found 21-year-old Meredith Kercher’s body, Sky News reported.
Amanda Knox, 20, and Raffaele Sollecito, 23, were shopping for lingerie in Rome Nov. 3 while hugging and kissing in an “exhibitionist” style, the newspaper reported, when they were overheard making their x-rated plans.

Cyclone Sidr, one of the worst storms to strike the impoverished country of Bangladesh in recent years, has killed at least 2,000 people, a number that is expected to rise as the South Asian nation continues to assess the damage. The Category 4 cyclone raked Bangladesh’s southwest coast on Thursday with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph (240 kph), destroying fishermen’s hamlets and villages.
Thousands are still missing, while an estimated 280,000 others are unable to return to their homes which were wiped away by the storm.
Most houses in the region are made of flimsy materials such as bamboo and corrugated iron, and stood no chance of withstanding the storm’s powerful winds.

An 18-foot whale that entered the Amazon River and swam about 1,000 miles upstream has been trapped for a second time on a sandbar, Brazilian news media reported Sunday.
Local residents spotted the minke whale a few miles from where it was freed on Friday near Santarem, a city in the Amazon rain forest, the Jornal do Brasil reported.
Brazil’s Environmental Protection Agency had called off its search for the whale late Friday after losing track of the mammal in the Tapajos River. Calls to agency officials were not answered on Sunday.

A maverick climber nicknamed the ‘French Spiderman’ earned some high-altitude redemption by using his bare hands to scale a 4,980-foot mountain in China Sunday after the being expelled in June for climbing an office building.
Alain Robert, 44, was invited back by Chinese amusement operator for the purpose of climbing Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie, according to a Reuters report.
He had been arrested and banned from the Communist nation for five years for climbing the 1,410-foot Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, without ropes or safety equipment, the report said.
Robert is billed as a high-profile “urban climber” who had also been arrested for attempting to scale Malaysia’s 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers.
