Popeye claims first national title

CRAIG Parry finally won the Australian Open at the 24th attempt, carding a closing three-under-par 69 to finish 11-under at The Australian Golf Club in Sydney.

Parry, boasting 12 titles on home soil among his 22 triumphs worldwide, had gone close to winning his national championship several times, including a play-off loss to John Morse at The Australian in 1990, and he had long stated his ambition to lift the Stonehaven Cup.

Two LA Reservoirs Shut Down Because of Carcinogen in Water

Two reservoirs that supply drinking water to parts of eastern and central Los Angeles have been shut down and will be drained because a rare sunlight-fueled chemical reaction tainted them with high levels of a chemical that can lead to cancer, utility officials said Friday.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power plans to drain 600 million gallons from the open-air Elysian and Silver Lake reservoirs early next year, a process that will leave each out of action for three to four months amid drought conditions, DWP spokesman Joseph Ramallo said in a statement.

Google debuts knowledge project

Google has kicked off a project to create an authoritative store of information about any and every topic.

The search giant has already started inviting people to write about the subject on which they are known to be an expert.

Google said it would not act as editor for the project but will provide the tools and infrastructure for the pages.

Many experts see the initiative as an attack on the widely used Wikipedia communal encyclopaedia.
